About Me
My name is Angela Schmeidel Randall. I was the first baby born in Bitburg, West Germany in 1974. I’m motivated by the thought that my 15 minutes were up before I could sit up. I live in Houston, Texas with the love of my life, Graham, and our two kitty cats.
Since 1997, I’ve been one of those jack-of-most-trades “web people,” usually in the genre of project management, web strategy, information architecture and usability. (Web strategy tip #1: List the things you want to do first.)
I’ve got a day job managing web and software development for a high volume futures trading company. I enjoy my job tremendously, but I don’t talk about it online. (Web strategy tip #2: Unless you’re promoting your own company, not talking about your employer is always the best course of action. No good can come of it. However, if you’ve got your own company, you should definitely have a blog where you write about work. Nothing will do you so much good as maintaining a [company focused] blog.)
I’m also available for short-term consulting gigs including expert reviews of websites (in the industry we call these heuristic evaluations), web strategy, and website organization (content architecture). Need help further integrating your branding efforts into clean, easy to navigate website?
In my spare time, I like to learn things. It took me 10 years to get my Bachelor’s degree, a B.A. in International Studies from the University of St. Thomas. As a result of working for so much of my adult life on that goal, I never learned how to be a non-student. I returned to school in 2005 and, in 2008, I graduated in the inaugural class of the Master of Liberal Studies program at Rice University. As I write this, I’ve been out of school for less than 6 months, and today signed up for a continuing education class. It’s a compulsion.
I love to collect good quotes, so I’ve developed a repository of my favorites on this website. In my spare time I like to cook, take pictures, and promote the idea of life long learning in the liberal arts.
