Sometimes I read quotes and I think - “wow, that’s true.” And then there are other times I read a quote and I think “Amen. Absolutely. Holy hell, you got it man.” This is one of them of those quotes.

More recent high school graduates should be given this quote before they depart for college. Once there, they should revisit it shortly before they register for classes each semester.
For those pursuing knowledge that does not ignite their mind, those students should find a better course of action. Life is too short to spend doing a job for they paycheck, prestige (without the passion), or lack of other appealing options.
For those struggling with what to do - what degree to get, what classes to take, and the biggie, what they want to be when they grow up - those students should follow their passions regardless of the degree’s perceived utility. There are zillions of unconventional jobs in the world, and even more people working in roles they enjoy that aren’t remotely related to their coursework. (So sayeth the technical project manager for a high volume futures trading company, she with a degree in International Studies and a recent Master’s in Liberal Studies where she focused on China and Anthropology.)
